Katie & Spencer {Dos Pueblos Ranch} Part 1

This is a huge post I know, but there were just so many photos from this wedding I loved.  It was a foggy day at Dos Pueblos Ranch and although it had a different look from most of the glowing light in my Southern California weddings, I really loved the ethereal atmosphere the fog created.  I'll post more from the reception soon!

Inspired by Monet {Paris, France}

Monet Shoot Inspiration

I’ve always found such inspiration in the work of impressionist paintings – the soft gestures, subtle palette, and ethereal nature completely encapsulate the look I love to create in my own wedding photography.
There’s no better season than springtime in Paris and when conceptualizing this inspiration photo shoot I wanted to bring together a group of artisans who could translate a vision of the impressionist inspired garden party.  I collaborated with Ceci New York who so beautifully captured the nude and grey palette I had in mind with touches of ombre through out.  The typeface was reminiscent of the belle-epoque iron works and café signage.  I’m particularly drawn to texture, and Ceci used a canvas envelope to bring in a painterly quality to the invitation set.  The result was complete perfection.

Nancy and Anne of Fete in France found the perfect spot for our tablescape – the Commanderie in Montmartre.  This area has sweeping views over Paris and is also removed from the more energetic parts of town.  It felt like a little escape for us.  Nancy and Anne hand died our ombre napkins, used antique containers for the florals, and sourced an iron table that created the garden party aesthetic.  We paired our table design with stunning gowns from Delphine Manivet, who’s delicate lace and soft white material reminds of me of antique French tea dresses, completely apropos for our styling and design concept.  Ashley Brooke Perryman, our remarkable makeup and hair stylist, used soft pink tones to create a romantic look for our model and we loved the natural braided hair that so many brides are drawn to right now – it was the ideal natural look for our bride.  Delphine’s gowns were paired with custom jewelry from Kristin Morris in antique golds and pink.  The talented bakers at Sugarplum Cake Shop completed the design with a hand painted grey and nude toned cake that featured subtle brushstrokes and watercolor details.

Thoughts for 2012

Corbin in Ireland

I'm a really goal-oriented person.  i like to have something that my mind is set on and I'm definitely the sort of woman that approaches life by saying - here's the goal and this is what I need to do to achieve it.  I don't really believe in impossibilities, just really big challenges that I'm determined to break through.  Some people say I work too much - but I like my work and in addition to the other blessings in my life, I get a lot of satisfaction from a prosperous career.  Last year I had certain press goals in mind, places I wanted to visit, new industry people I wanted to collaborate with.  I thought in the spirit of resolutions I'd share a few things on this year's career wish-list:

1.  Photograph a wedding at Blue Hill Farm.  It looks like Ireland but it's in NY and I love the whole vibe of this place.

2.  Spend some time working on a food portfolio.

3.  Spend a week photographing in the Cotswalds.  Thatcher and I will rent a car and wander around picture-postcard English towns.  Small Cottage, Local Pub, Done.

3.  Photograph an amazing fashion look book.

4.  Keep my website updated.  Blog more for that matter.

5.  Photograph for a cookbook...luminous overhead shots of really beautiful food.

6.  Learn to sew custom linens for my still life shoots.

7.  See my work in Town & Country.

8.  Photograph more for myself.  Maybe it means taking an extra day to explore Ireland when we're they're in May not because I want landscape shots for a wedding album, or I need to scout, but just because I'm there and why not!?  Or maybe it's just photos of some really gorgeous greens at the farmers market because not every image needs a purpose.  Sometimes it's fine just to stop and acknowledge the beauty in the quiet days in your life.  I'm going to do more of that.  It's hard to rival the beauty of a wedding day, but perhaps I'll try.

Marie & Christian {Copenhagen, Denmark}

I was absolutely delighted to get Marie's inquiry for her wedding in Copenhagen - she never would have guessed this when stumbling upon my website, but I already had a lifelong connection with Denmark having grown up with a Danish au-pair.  I have always been completely enamored with the culture there.  I had been to visit Copenhagen, but never for a wedding, and was absolutely thrilled when Marie and Christian brought me over for their fall nuptials.  What I found to be so wonderful was that Marie and Christian had spent a lot of time looking at wedding blogs for inspiration and I just loved how they incorporated Italy (where they were engaged) into the decor in a subtle way - wine tones, fruitful arrangements... Marie and Christian were married in the Kastellet Citadel church - a fantastic area of Copenhagen not far from the famed Little Mermaid statue, and with its windmill and vibrant red palette, this location was a photographers dream!  The reception followed at a nearby restaurant that faced the water and the evening was full of the most sincere toasts (lots of them as is the Danish custom!).  Their puppy Mimi also made an appearance!  The love that day was just so palpable -

Faymi & Eric {Paris, France}

Oh what can I say about Faymi & Eric - they're two of the sweetest people I've met - and when their plans for a wedding in Asheville turned into a tiny destination wedding in Paris it was a big OUI from this photographer.  We skipped about the city taking photos - F&E by the Seine, a kiss in the Tuilleries, another in Montmartre.  Faymi oozes style. Eric is dashing and smitten with Faymi.  It's kind of perfect.

Fab planning by Fete in France, and that cake - oh that cake - by Sugarplum Cake Shop.  Laurel, Krista, and Taylor send me off with the most delectable of treats on each visit to Paris...sinful really, but they're just too good to pass up.

S&B {London, England}

I met this darling couple through one of my brides, and from the first conversations about their wedding, I knew I would just be so fortunate to photograph it.  First big sell - it's in Ireland!  I love Ireland - not sure if I've mentioned it, but not only am I getting married in Ireland as well, but Thatcher and I have been vacationing there for years and it's really our favorite country.  That's saying a lot considering how much we both travel.  Anyway, these two live in London and wanted me to snap some engagement photos in their neighborhood.  I just happened to be visiting a friend outside of London for a pre-Thanksgiving trip, and after a whirlwind few days, I popped into town to photograph this session. There were just so many photos I loved - you'll see below that I found it really hard to choose, hence the massive blog edit!:

Cheerful Maine Wedding {Preview}

These photos just feel so happy to me.  I don't know if it's something in the colors, or just that it was a perfectly lovely New England day and things seem to really fall into place in a very natural and effortless sort of way, but I really loved so many of the images that Thatcher and I came up with at this wedding.  My dear friend Meagan styled this wedding at The Barn on Walnut Hill.  You'll get to see more of this wedding on the newsstands early spring!

Smitten Editorial Photo Shoot

A while back I had the great opportunity to collaborate with a wonderful bunch of Charleston wedding professionals on an editorial shoot at The Sanctuary on Kiawah.  The lovely Della and Becky from Smitten magazine put together a fantastic team and it was an honor to be the photographer behind their vision.  Alexandra Munzel of Alexander Styles and Lindsay Nowack of Maddison Row styled the elegant wardrobe, Pamela Lesch was on makeup, Charlotte Belk for hair, and my bud Shannon snapped behind the scenes.  Head on over to Smitten to see the latest (and charming!) winter issue.

Holden

This little cutie pie completely melted my heart.  I've been doing a lot of baby portraits lately and it's such a nice glimpse into the family life of my colleagues, friends, and wedding clients.  Holden is my amazingly talented friend Rebecca's little munchkin.

Andy & Dan {Ducktrap Retreat}

Andy & Dan met on a train to Boston and I was immediately charmed by their adorable wedding story.  They were married at Ducktrap Retreat this past July - beautiful flowers by Emily Carter and yummy catering by Swan's Way.  Hope you enjoy the photos -
